Is speed vs. Rotax actually important?

"Most people seem to think that there are too many classes in Karting and here we are with a proposal for another one."

Agree 100%. This for me is a huge annoyance with Karting; a class system that just doesn't have any logical structure. When I was first investigating karting this initially put me off until I eventually revisited it a year or two later and got my head around all the various classes.

"The Rotax package is not as good now as it was back in 2000, can't change this can't change that, plus it's outdated, designed over 12 years ago, look at the BMB engine this years technology, better wiring, carb, air box, exhaust, tyres, 6kg lighter, what more can I say"

Is this really what people care about? For me personally technology in karting is not an attraction at all, and is actually a negative in many respects. It's not like karting is exactly at the pinnacle of technology anyway (carbs?). The point is surely for cheap and fun racing?

And does it REALLY matter if this class is 0.2s faster than Rotax or any other class? Who cares!? High speed and sticky tyres does not guarantee fun racing, personally I'd like to see the hardest tyres possible specified. However, this wouldn't serve the need of the various industry people/importers for huge numbers of tyres that support classes such as these...

Probably shows me up as someone who thinks TKM Extreme is an ideal class. Unfortunately no grids at all for these in Scotland, Formula Blue being the next best option.
