I think the dangers can be assuaged by using them differently rather than banning them. Look at Club100, they use DD karts with complete noobies and manage it safely by doing things differently.
i.e if trying to push your kart off again after a crash is dangerous, consider not allowing it. So if you crash out, you're out the race and must pull your kart off the track and retire.
Or getting out the kart at all is too dangerous, ban that, and introduce club100 style pusher karts.
Personally I don't think either of them is necceasry, but the point is that you can do either of those things to mitigate the risks you mentioned without an outright ban.
