Not sure Why I can't reply to itpro's thread, but that's what is intended.

Seems you have a forgone conclusion of all S1 competitors.

I've had the same set of pods for the last year, that will be used over the coming year unless the are damaged to a point where they're unusable. I've had the same helmet for 8 years. I did buy a visor which helps me in bright track conditions but opted for the black visor rather than an iridium visor to save money. I turn up in a beaten up old van only have 2 motors (1 which is crap but serves for emergency purposes). I can carry on with examples.... I'm very careful how I spend my money. And knowing 'drewdt3' well, I know that he's got the same sort of approach.

I think the point was, why are these obligatory if I can provide something myself (and did last year) that does the same job at zero cost.

Although some of the grid have a fashion-lead way of spending money on their racing, there are drivers out there who can't... Don't tar us with the same brush.
