as we have just started out , i would say to start on a honda, cheap, reliable, good grids, close racing, easy to sell on, if after 12 months you want to try 2 stroke ,as we will , then the new IAME engine will have been around a year , so teething problems should be sorted and second hand ones will be appearing on the market, personally i wouldn't touch the comer with a barge pole ,it is very troublesome and is dying out, as for chassis, if you go for a honda, get a chassis with the engine on the right,(saves cutting all the sprockets) project one is pretty foolproof for a beginner, but if he is a true novice, buy second hand as he will have a few crashes!! and you wont lose as much if he doesn't take to it!
