Personally, I find postings like this very sad for karting. I dont like a particular class so I know, lets start a debate to knock it and prove to everyone that the class I am in is the best and all it needs is more competitors. Is this because the size of your class is still quite small, therefore you have to travel further to get a grid.

I take it you would like some Rotax drivers to move over to the class that you are now running in because they will have a much better chance of equal racing based on driver skill and not the amount of money spent on improving the performance from their engine.

At the recent Super 1 meeting, we heard disillusioned KGP competitors who were complaining about the cost and the frequency of engine rebuilds to stay competitive never mind winning. Sounded just like Rotax but even more expensive.

I dont think it matters what class you are in at Super 1 level, if you want to win or have a chance of winning you are going to have to be prepared to shell out serious money for the engine and the chassis and the time spent testing to get the best out of both. So if that means buying an engine from one engine builder and using a specific chassis, then do it to be competitive.

But how does all this help karting. There are x amount of people karting and not a massive influx each year of new karters, so new classes only reduce the grids further. If there are 100 karters and 5 classes, you get 20 to a grid. Next season, 20 new karters 2 new classes and 20 drivers retire, you now have 17/18 on the grids. Is this good for karting or good for the importer of the new class which just sold 17 outfits?

This is where the people who are governing karting should take charge and limit new classes, but unfortunately, this isn't the case and it would appear that you can get just about any class introduced, regardless of the effect that it will have on karting. I would still like to see George Robinsons proposals for Karting.

Why wont I give up Rotax apart from being too old and not quick enough to even think about S1?. I can have fun racing at club level on my budget. I can travel anywhere in the country if I want to and there will be a grid. lots of 2nd hand spares available. They are reliable and the JAG warranty is good. Lots of shops at tracks stock the parts.
