The answer cannot be conclusive

As the thread shows, there are a large number of factors that can affect cornering, all of which can be used to minimise drag but which used incorrectly can lead to an increase in drag.

Some of these factors are bound up in the physics of karting. The forces generated by the shape of different drivers mean that different answers will apply to different drivers. We cannot shrink or grow drivers to fit an optimum size, though clearly size and shape is an important factor right up into F1, witness the debate about Nico Hulkenburg being too big, too heavy!

Secondly itpro is right and wrong about drivers holding the steering wheel in one position. They are always putting in corrections to the kart to keep it on the desired line, but these corrections are often so small as to be invisible to the naked eye and are composed of combinations of throttle, weight, steering and brake and a response to the track and race situation

If one looks at the Bercy Elf Masters kart races eg:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0Sg8it4ZbY

You can see acknowledged masters of their craft showing the full range of driving techniques on a surface which exaggerates every movement for the benefit of the spectators. ( I trust you would acknowledge Senna, Prost, Schumacher etc as being masters of the kart?)

So you can see Senna regularly three-quartering (oversteering on turn in)the kart, driving the apex in a straight line but with the kart tangential to the line of travel and flicking the kart back into alignment on the run out, but also using different methods on the same corner to take a different line in a different situation.

Yes, it is exaggerated because the shots are much closer that one might normally be with the naked eye, and the corners are tighter, speeds are slower than we might find on a full size track .

Equally, one can also see that even these guys don't always get it right every time, count the number of times these champions bounce a wheel off the wall. So, from time to time, one can also see a 'release' point, where the kart is slower away from a cornering situation than it has been at other times, slower than its rivals. Yes, there is no doubt a technical reason, the oversteer has been too prolonged, the revs have fallen a touch, the flick out has not ended up in the correct alignment and on at least one occasion,a little external encouragement to take up the wrong position. Whatever the cause, there is a point at which the kart hesitates rather than moves seamlessly from cornering to straight line acceleration.

The point is, if one is imprecise enough to call the instant after this momentary hesitation the 'release' point, then one is to some extent making a guess as to its cause. So if one tries a number of different solutions, eventually one of them will work. It's a bit like losing something, because you will always find it in the last place you look. So whatever you do last will be the magic solution to 'release' the kart.
