Thanks for all that Simon, very helpful indeed, I hadn't realised it registered the end when the engine was stopped. We didn't touch the buttons until we got back to the pit so I guess something's not working quite right. The cables are fitted well away from each other, electronics is one of my 'things' so I have a good idea about cable interaction. Also the pickup is mounted the correct way round so not sure what is going wrong. The strips are on fairly straight bits of the track so I doubt he's missing them and he never reported being airborne. I'll look in more detail at the number and try and see if I can work out if there is a pattern.
