The raising the ride height usually refered to is the front ride height. This has the effect of increasing front grip at the expense of rear grip. It achieves this by a combination of raising the CofG and increasing the castor angle. It is something that has only a very small effect, and should be regarded as "fine tuning" rather than a first resort.
