OK, to provide a bit of balance, most scrutineers are pretty helpful but I have dealt with many who were not. The worst being noise testers at car circuits.

Of course, regardless of how helpful/unhelpful the scrutineer is being, as with all officials, the best tactic to deal with them is to remain calm and polite. A bit of ego boosting doesn't hurt either.
