Simple answer is No, they should have seals. A number of competitors use the misguided belief that removing the seals reduces friction, whist in a perfect environment this may be true up to a point the real answer is that the bearings are designed with a seal to both keep out the cr*p and keep the vital lubricant in. While the bearing may appear to spin more freely without the seals in a dry state, when loaded the lubicant becomes vital to maintain the free running and prevent full metal to metal contact that will occur if the lubicant is able to escape hence increacing drag, caused by friction and heat build up.
