The best method when building a chassis from scratch is bronze welding. Its time consuming and expensive so is rarely used these days. The consequence of this is the problems that you, and very many others have experienced. This is caused by the higher temperatures of electric welding destroying the tubes properties close to the welds. I personally would still bronze weld the repairs, because thats easiest for me, although this doesn't rectify the underlying problem so the method you choose may as well be whatever is easiest for you.
