I would have to disagree slightly here. When karting people talk about ackerman, they are refering to using 2 seperate holes on the steering spade. Karts with only one hole, or using the centre hole if a choice is provided, may still have an ackerman effect by virtue of the position of the track rod hole in the steering arms. In fact, I suspect that the term "Ackerman" can only be correctly used to describe a set up where an imaginary line drawn from the king-pin, through the steering arm track rod hole, would if extended intersect the centre of the rear axle. The more "ackerman effect" used, the greater front grip. It makes no difference whether it is acheived with angled steering arms or 2 holes in the steering spade. I have on occasion, deliberately run with a bent column - it can have advantages!
