If it was non-MSA to MSA, then he may not be a novice at non-MSA, but may be at all MSA meetings. Otherwise, whilst nobody really checks, once you've done your 5 or 6 MSA races, you shouldn't be entered as a novice and certainly shouldn't be claiming trophies if you still are.
