Yes a suit can go out of date. Usally they are MSA legal for 5 years before they expire. You will see years on the back of the suit. These are the year the suit was manufactured and the year that it expires. I purchased a new suit in sept and the dates on mine are 2010 - 2015.

However, the MSA extended the date on 2009 expiry Sparco suits till 2014. They also did this with SNELL SA2000 helmets. I used an 09 expired suit for most of this season. Therefore you may find a good cheap second hand suit out there, but please phone the MSA first to check it is definatley ok to use. I bought a Sparco Jesolo suit for Ł136. Its a great level 2 suit and very reasonabley priced.
