The important thing to know about fitting a seat is the exact ideal weight distribution you are looking for. Most advice gives a nice vague 'between 40 and 45%' over the front.
Given that most full sized karts are around 1040mm betwwen axle centers, and that an adult driver is usually roughly the weight of his kart, it means that you have to move the seat between 10 and 20 mmm to alter the weight distribution by 1%. If you choose 40% and it should be 45%, that's 4 inches of movement.
A good method of research is to find what the recommended position is for that kart, normally given for a small, slender, works-type driver and work out how much your driver is different from the 'recommended' standard.
