If the weight distribution is already 'right', then the best place is in the curve of the seat under the driver's legs.

Otherwise, sticking 4 kg behind the seat may alter the weight distribution by 5 to 10 mm.

(4kg is 1/10th of a 40kg driver. Put 4 kg behind the seat, 10 cms behind the driver's C of G is the same as moving the seat back 1/10 of 10 cms, 1 cm.)

For me (87kg suited and booted) putting 4kg of lead behind the seat alters the weight distribution by half of 1 percent.
