The fuel will only 'go off' if it is kept in a vented container. If it is in the usual plastic tank or jerry can, it cannot lose the volatiles by evaporation.

If you are really worried, mix it with a bit of fresh fuel and use it during practice..

In a vented container, or one with lots of air (eg: a gallon of fuel in a 20 gallon tank) there's a certain amount of dissent among the experts. Some suggest it will go off in 8 to 12 weeks, others that it takes 2 years.

I started a car that had lain idle for 10 years on the petrol in the tank and it ran, lumpily to be true, but it ran.
