It's worn away! To check use a vernier on the width and depth of the tube at a non flattened point, then compare with the worn area. You will see that the tube width is the same but the depth has significantly reduced. Had the tube been flattened not worn the material would have forced the tube to gain width (i.e. ovality) but in 99% of cases it will simply have worn the tube away.
By measuring your tube thickness you can then estimate how much materiel is left in the tube wall at the worn point. Be warned the results can be alarming!
