Draw a line from one of the main seat mounts to the bearing hanger/carrier on the same side. If this line (i.e. the distance between the two points) lengthens/shortens during cornering, braking or accelerating which it likely does, then adding a seat stay to the same side will surely limit this. You've essentially formed the third side of a triangle from seat mount to lower chassis rail to bearing carrier and back to seat mount.

Attack 2001, to answer your question, it's fine to bend it and fit it. If it helps, leave it on, otherwise take it off.
