It is not just cadet tyres. When the purple spot SL1 tyre was introduced for prokarts they were massively different in performance to the previous white spot. Now this may have been down to new batch v old stock for all I know.

Cut forward a year, still the same purple spot, and we started to see inconsistent sets of tyres. On the shore meter there was a difference of up to 10 points in hardness between the fronts and the rears which, like the wets, made driving/setting up simply impossible.

I bet Dunlop, like all major manufacturers will have been trying to reduce cost of production (I am not sure if they were impacted by the tsunami a few years back) and stuff like quality control is easy to cut back on by shifting sampling from 1 in 100 to 1 in 500 say.

Thankfully we have moved to the Brdigestone tyre as so far we have not experienced any issues.
