Glad to hear you're having fun!

You're right not to try and get too involved with your sons driving technique. They key to extracting performance is training from an impartial, professional coach.

I'm not sure if the set up is still the same, but when I was learning, I received training from outfits such as Protrain. I was watched by a front runner in the British championship at the time, who stood on the breaking point of every corner, to help me brake progressively later and later.

I'm going for driver coaching this weekend, and I've been racing for 10 years!

Try them or a similar outfit.

Champions train - look at tennis players, they never play without a coach these days.

Most of all, enjoy!
