I think it's needed because of the ridiculous costs of the other classes. At least in something which is controlled to a budget you can see if your son/daughter has true ability and then progress into more expensive classes. We have done comers for almost 2 years, and there is no way I can afford stars and be competitive. We are competitive at club level, but when you look at the budget required, mainly for engines it's just not achievable for most people. The only reason I would do it is purely for the experience. So I would rather spend 4k and enjoy racing competitively in a national championship, than spend a minimum of 6k and struggle and not enjoy our racing.
