Not a bad answer but i think the things would vibrate around and could still cause some stiffening effect if they contact the seat? also you would have pieces of metal only anchored by one fixing.
my experience from driving a kart with and without seat stays could be total placebo and i happened to lap faster
my knowledge as a mechanical engineer could also have been a wind up by my lecturers
maybe you should offer your wisdom to rally car teams. they could use the weight saving as they through out anti-roll bars, etc.
i do hope you arent a builder offering open-plan living conversions
