Yes, I'll grant there's an increase in moment of inertia, but the power required to accelerate a clutch is pretty low. But I accept it's a disadvantage.

A DD can of course stall if the kart is rolling, but you'd have to lock the rear end on the brakes. It then bump starts itself as soon as you get off the brake. If you release the throttle on a clutched kart the clutch remains engaged until the road speed becomes low enough for the clutch to disengage. Looking at the data on my TAG that's below 4600 rpm, which is much lower than any speed I ever see on the track. I HAVE made the clutch disengage by braking too hard, but as soon as you touch the throttle it re-engages at revs to suit the road speed (about 9000 rpm into the hairpin at Hooton).

The idea that the engine is driving the kart forward because there is a tickover on a clutched kart is obviously not true. As long as the engine speed is above tickover speed on a shut throttle the engine is not driving the kart forward, but slowing it down - just like a direct drive engine - or your road car. As for engines running hotter because they have less engine braking effect - not something I've noticed even on 4 strokes where engine braking effects are much more pronounced than 2 strokes.

You're right about it being personal preference as to who runs a clutch, so I find it a bit weird that you're making stuff up about engines running hotter if they have a tickover to try and convince people. If you think about the energetics of the situation the reverse is more likely to be true.
