I found the best way was as you come up to the start of the grid make sure the engine is clear. If you are sitting on your grid spot for a while put it into neutral so you don't burn the clutch out and get a crap start.
I normally blip the throttle every couple of seconds clearing it and then when the red lights come on go full throttle with the clutch fully pulled back, I just knew where the biting point was from experience. In my first year of gearbox I used to get abliterated on the starts. It all comes down to experience, the more you do it the more you will learn and have more confidence and know what to do. Just practice and pracitce.
