Hi Ian. Appreciate all your points and was well aware of them, however, we are prepared to suffer the small performance loss and risk a reliability issue for the sake of allowing the lad to get the most of the limited length of test sessions (tend to get 5 x 8min sessions where we race). A minor error resulting in a spin will loose him a lot of time waiting for a push start and he is not yet physically able to push start himself (he's 11). I raced in the 70's and 80's so can teach him self starting as he grows by the way!
I have considered the benefits of going DD to encourage him not to make mistakes in the first place!
