I have no experience of x30 but what I'd say to the comment about iame's (including cadet) being expensive to run and needing to be professionally serviced to be competitive is as follows:
Being non sealed, you do have the option of doing the work yourself. There are only a couple of things beyond the home rebuilder I.e. Honing the bore and splitting the crank. Both of those services can be brought in. Assuming you pay someone to hone the bore and size the correct piston. You can rebuild an Iame cadet for about £100 (assuming nothing is Knackered) that's about a third of the professional price.

What you're paying for with a professional rebuild is there knowledge (obviously) but also time. It takes a while to set port heights and squish, more so if you're not used to doing it but with not many tools and practice it isn't hard. If your engine has previously been fiched professionally and you take note of thickness of base gadgets etc. as you strip it, you'll be half way to getting right when you build it back up.

I'm not saying anyone can build a super 1 engine but given engine builders aren't allowed (or surposed to anyway) remove metal (bar honing the bore) their "magic" is largely limited to; crank straightness, port height, ignition advance and squish. Getting the right mix might be a black art but getting something close is as much about spending the time.

At least with Iame, you're all starting from a similar place unlike; comer, rotax and Honda, where the base engines because they weren't intended to be racing engines, have far more variation to start with!
