The carb spacer block generally only breaks if you have an incorrectly adjusted throttle pedal stop. It does wear with age however so should be inspected whenever you swap carbs. I had one break in timed qualifying once and had to qualify operating the throttle by hand.

If it still does it next time you're out, try cracking the high jet open to 1/2 turn (whilst on the circuit). If that helps, you're either sucking in air or have a fuel supply problem.
