So are you saying the engine revs are very high when leaving the dummy grid? If yes the clutch could be part of the problem but when engaged the kart would fly away when the revs claimed hence the reason for the big hoohah recently in Europe and stars with data loggers fitted to karts to ensure the clutches engage at or below the legal limit (3000 revs max) I think.
So this brings us back to fact that you say it is a problem to get the kart away from the grid and start so this says it is not the clutch... back to the reed block!!!
Please post the solution when you find the problem.
BTW. when I suffered an identical problem my initial inspection of the reeds all looked ok but they were 100% at fault.
