To be honest, I think you'll be wasting your time using the grease approach.

If you cant' get a dummy gudgeon pin you can either turn one out of aluminium - about 0.5mm smaller in diameter than the steel pin and the length of the "conrod upper eye + the width of the 4 thrust washers" (maybe your school has a metalworking facility ?)or you could make it out of wooden dowel which would do the job if you can't wait.

The dummy pin diameter doesn't need to be of any great accuracy as youre only using it to hold all the bits in place whilst you push it out with the real gudgeon pin. In fact mine is small enough in diameter to be pushed through one of the circlips that is installed in the piston. The length is more critical as it has to long enough to hold the thrust washers in place but no longer as the piston will not slide over it during assembly.
