String can measure camber in the exact same way it can measure toe accept using the tops and bottoms of the wheels instead. However, as with measuring toe using this method (and most lasers), you are only measuring relative camber (and toe). One wheel could be at 0 deg and the other at 3 deg, rather than each at 1.5 deg for instance.

The best way to track up a kart (IMO) is no different to the best way to setup a race car. A flat floor, parallel bars running laterally front and rear, fishing line between the bars on each side and measure toe on each side as the distance from the fishing line at the front and rear of each wheel. Camber is set using a good camber gauge. This should all be done with driver seated. At the circuit, you use the other methods, recording only the changes. When back in the workshop, do a set down, recording where your setup ended up. Whether the time this takes to setup negates the benefit is for you to decide.

Personally I find the tape measure method fastest and good enough. The lasers are useful when a second pair of hands are unavailable. If you need real speed, stick a spirit level across the kingpins and set the stubs, by eye, parallel to the level.
