Can I just put my two pennorth in as an industrial fan engineer (interested in karting of course) A ventilated disc is in essence like a centrifugal impeller. Such impellers come with a whole variety of blade shapes, radial, forward or backward curved. Regardless of which way blade is inclined it will still throw air outwards because it works by centrifugal action, albeit with different degrees of efficiency (and it does have to rotate in the correct direction for the blade shape) I would have thought (and I bow to greater authorities on karting) that as an earlier thread suggested the grooves on the disc face are probably more relevant.
