no, i fully understand what you are saying as i have alluded to im my posts.

im just pointing out that there are merits and flaws with both systems.

im sure the guy who comes behind a load of visitors would rather have a 2nd place trophy than 5th say. so im sure he will be trying.

i can appreciate then later rounds scenario where a driver only needs to place 2nd or 3rd in a race to win the championship but his rival have to win the race (maybe 10 places+ higher). However, why were the rivals leaving it so late in the championship??

win every race is the aim :)
