OK.
First, disconnect the ignition cut-out: this should be the red wire from the ignition coil. This eliminates any fault in the cut-out switch.
You should then see two black wires. One is grounded on a short wire and connection to the laminated (thin strips) parts of the unit, the other to the earth strap connecting to the engine. It is important to have an "earthing" conection from the ignition unit to the engine, as the unit is rubber mounted.
Then, enshure the black wire from the ignition transducer (on the LH side of the engine) is fitted on the outer-most (RH) connector on the ignition unit. Make sure all connections are secure and there are no breaks in the wiring.
