There is 12 segment roundal cast in the side of the reed block housing. Each segment represents a month of the year. A dot in the first segment in the one oclock position means the barrel is a jan 09, in the second seg feb and so on. Also look for the serial number small letters and numbers etched in the side of the barrel. Look out for the end of the number as an S9 or P9, these tend to be the best, but not always.
