Why do you say the Rotax is overpriced on rebuild cost when you clearly are basing that assumption on the prices quoted by a couple of builders? Not all service centres will over charge!
Try getting a selection of builders from around the UK to quote.
There is no secret recipe for building a magic top S1 engine, as builders can only work with what you have and simply build within the tolerance limits. Most of us know what works and what does not so theoretically you should get the same performance motor back whatever builder you go to.
In many cases you are paying for name and reputation but not all of the top S1 motors have come from the " big names'.
