Not sure if the 'how does it run with the airbox off' question by alan was answered?
It took us half a test day of swapping bits to find we had left one bung in one of the two inlet trumpets following a pressure wash clean! The engine would run but rich when revved! We also had a similar intermittent problem where a carb intake to airbox bung (an aresol cap) had fell inside the airbox - it was a black bung / cap so not obvious. The bung rattled around the airbox (old square type) and occasionally choked the carb intake. Both were found by swapping airboxes.
