What was said earlier about forced air induction is true in that it is only beneficial on very high output high reving engines at high speed. I think we will all agree that the humble GX160 hardly comes into this category! Most normal engines (i.e. car, motorcycle etc) make use of a large ‘still’air box containing the filter and having an intake pointing away from the engine heat to collect cool air. This is usually adequate to supply all the air needs of this type of engine. High output purpose built racing engines however usually incorporate a plenum chamber in the induction system prior to the carb/injection point. This is a specially designed chamber which is force fed cool air from the outside of the vehicle body, through air scoops or ducts, to ensure the engine receives adequate quantities of air at high revs. What would help the GX160 though is keeping the engine heat away from the air/filter box which could be achieved by suitable ducting shields or insulation - rules permitting
