i was told that there is a hgih and low spot on a sprocket, so set the chain at the high spot.
halfway between the rear and the front sprocket. there should be no more vertical movement than width of the chain.
i also read that you should shorten the chain as much as possible to the minimise the whip effect of the chain, which can affect power. or so i read, which makes sense to me.
