The U stands for unified engine, the T is a country code, in this case Thailand. An engine without a country code is by default manufactured/assembled in Japan. In other words if it really is a U1 (rare in Europe) then depending on the engine number it is nominally the same spec as an equivalent UT1(manufactured in Thailand). However as the engine prefix will be different, the cylinder at least will not be legal for some Honda classes. Most of the other parts will be identical to a UT1.

Worth noting that most GX160 spares sold in Europe are derived from the U1 (made in Japan) not the UT1 (made in thailand). A very grey area indeed, if you wanted to get anal about regulations.
