Your analogy is good but let's be relistic with it.....
The alternatives:- ********************* A) you buy the Jap car off Auto trader and you get out onto the track NEXT WEEK..... and the following week and, in fact, EVERY weekend that you can get the time. You bend it and you either repair it or buy another equally cheap Jap replacement.
B) You buy your Cortina...... and spend the next 5 montsh rebuilding all the appalling bits on it and spend MONTHS preventing the suspension form moving AT ALL (as that's the only way to make ANY Ford handle..... especially any of their live-axle JOKE cars.....). You spend a FORTUNE on spare parts and finally go to the track..... where the water pump fails and you trailer the car home, again.... having wasted your entry fee. This happens WEEKLY until you've fixed all the niggles and you get a SINGLE day at the track ....... and the big ends run out...... and you spend ANOTHEWR small fortune rebuilding the engine AGAIN........ and so on......
For me... if you want a track-day-car.... buy a TRACK-day-car..... if you want a 5-months-in-the-garage-car.... buyt the Cortina.....
For me.... if you want to DRIVE..... stick to a standard ProKart or buy a 100cc HOWLER...... Don't try to make a "Silk Purse from a Sow's Ear"...
However, each to their own.....
By all means: 'Engineer' to win RACES..... but buy something ready to drive if you JUST want the fun of DRIVING!
