The tkm example was about showing that the inertia of the clutch etc has so much influence on engine performance that tal-Ko produce the tag engines with a bigger dia exhaust and higher compression (reduced head volume) this is all included in the current fiche.

As per one of the other threads, it's all a bit of a can of worms because some claim they've gone too far, Certainly in the senior class dd drive still seems to be winning, so for this thread let's assume there is now parity. So it took an increase in exhaust dia from 40mm to 45mm and a reduction in head volume from 11cc to 10cc, just to offset the clutch and starter ring. I think it's fair to assume, if you put those on a dd engine you'd gain a few 1/10's

As for the other (non tag) incarnations, it is perceived wisdom that the best combo is the later cnc barrel with the early small bearing crank because, you've guessed it, it has less inertia!

The, non tag, clutched you'd assume and most people believe are at a disadvantage because of the added inertia of the clutch and because they don't have the bigger exhaust, higher compression ratio of the tag. Whether the early clutch is better than the newer v clutch because of its smaller bearings, I don't know.

I did argue on a forum thread and in an email direct to tal-ko that the clutched engines, was now the poor relation and should receive some of the break the tag's got I.e. Just the exhaust or just the head volume (they don't have the starter ring so don't have the full additional inertia of the tag) to help equalise things.

Like I said, it's a bit of a can of worms but certainly they had to do something to get the tag on the pace and that does show what knighty as been talking about I.e the effect of inertia on performance.
