I don't know of anyone that does.....we race in Subaru, with the engine on a senior OTK chassis, and use single split rear sprockets, so drive sprocket on the inside of the axle bearing, and we are getting them over a 50mm axle.....if you have tight spots its normally an indication of chain wear, as this used to happen on our Honda cadet and we just got on with it. Failing that, just take a bunch of sprockets to a machine shop and have them slit in half on a milling machine.....but overall I don't think its the cause of your tight spots, I think your chain is knackered. Regarding your assumption, I think you are wrong.......if made this way it would cost a fortune per sprocket, which is pointless for no gain.......single slit sprocket is perfectly ok IMHO.
