I would partly agree with the above, however, not all karting is race based.

My daughter was quick (well within a second), however, she never had any intention of racing - simply didn't want to, however, she would turn out most weekends and turn 100 laps or so and loved just going faster. She, however, was very hesitant at overtaking (possibly as a result of a few incidents and accidents when she had been overtaken herself) but that did not spoil her enjoyment of karting.

It will come with experience, however, only if your driver actually wants to. 7 is still very young.
