The regulation on clutches specify:

"have a maximum engagement speed of no more than
2,500 rpm engine speed"

White springs are probably the most commonly used. The Banging/snagging you are experiencing might be due to the spring or it could be that the clutch is incorrectly set up (I presume it is a magnum/noram type clutch). Normal setting would be the soft setting as described in the following link:
