There were a number of copy clutches around, probably still are, that were being sold as genuine Magnum. Unfortunately , while they looked fine they are made of inferior materiel and failed very quickly, maybe you have encountered these.
With Magnums costing over Ł50 a pop more copies are likely to appear.
