Will the timing be based on a specific linear piston distance from TDC that could be done otherwise with a DTI and a strobe light to confirm the interaction of the coil and flywheel?

I'm building a couple of off-the-shelf T2s at the moment and would like to check/set the timing in accordance with next years specification.
