It's not a problem there's no such thing as bad track time. There are even some people in your area who can rent proper Cadet karts to use at Forest Edge. Me for instance but other teams do it too

When he proves proficient and you think it will be cheaper than hiring a turnkey Kart then you have a cast iron case to SWMBO. Use the time to get his gear together, learn as much as you both can etc.

Karting is a brilliant sport and it's so much more accessible these days that you don't *have* to buy your own from the outset. There's some very good A&D Karting out there, don't panic!
