DavyBoy a good friend of mine worked in a shed as an apprentice where blocks and sheets of the stuff were cut using hand saws and bandsaws. He described the shed as having a mist that glittered in the sunlight and people walked through this as a matter of course while doing their every day work. He is now past retirement age and is as fit as a many people half his age. He shows no ill effects and has hardly missed a day off work.
On the other hand I know of an individual who has signs of lung disease that has been attributed to her husband breeding budgies about 50 years ago. The fact is there are numerous "contaminants" that may or may not be dangerous depending on the individuals.
