I was under the impression he had the same tyres as everybody else.

You mean like Schumacher running into the back of Kubica at turn 2 on lap 1.

Schumacher's fastest lap was nearly 2 sec slower than Rosberg's, he straight lined the final chicane multiple times to stay ahead of the Force India cars, he tried to drive Kubica of the road when he came out of the pits, he brake tested Massa and ruined his race.
